JAY KESSELS
CURIOUS CREATIVE

I like to combine the disciplines I follow. This generates curiosity and interest. Some of my favourite projects have been small but sturdy, start to finish brands. I love designing logos and their ecosystems. AI is completely changing art direction and design, and I'm out in front of it.

LOGO DESIGNS AND ANIMATIONS

Creating logos is a true passion of mine, and bringing them to life through animation is equally thrilling. Here are some of the logos I've crafted and animated over the years.

AI EMPOWERED: TYPOGRAPHY

Typography projects are a delightful challenge. AI's limitations in typography can be managed effectively by understanding how it all fits together with traditional techniques .With persistence in iteration and experimenting, impressive and consistent outcomes are achievable. Explore this example of how AI can elevate typography, making the process both rewarding and enjoyable.

DIGITAL DESIGN & ART DIRECTION

Storyboarding a website is a valuable step in my design process. I'm always trying to apply my motion design expertise to digital layouts. This reel showcases some of the user interfaces I've had the privilege to work on. Additionally, I've designed a master site template for an augmented reality studio, which has been adapted for all its entities. This allowed me to integrate elements like animated SVGs, lightweight vector-based JSON files, and Trapcode particle sequences for background loops. I've often used After Effects to present concepts to clients before the development phase.

AI EMPOWERED: CONCEPT DESIGN & ITERATION

Will AI take over from illustrators and photographers? Absolutely not. It does however significantly streamline the creative process, especially for unique concept driven projects like editorials or covers, soaking up remarkably less time and effort. The capacity to iterate swiftly and with quality is a revolutionary development in my field. It's good to be way out in front of this - check this video for a brief demonstration of what I mean.

MY TIME AT MIRALUPA,
AN AUGMENTED REALITY STUDIO.

I once landed a sweet position at an augmented reality studio, despite having no prior knowledge of AR. This opportunity allowed me to immerse myself in various fields, adding some expertise in 3D artwork, gaming, WordPress, web design, and motion graphics. Our flagship product was an impressive life-sized AR experience set in Shawinigan, which was truly remarkable. I spent my days designing and producing cool stuff. I even met my wife there.Miralupa's intellectual property was eventually integrated into the broader AR industry, yet remnants of it remain accessible here:

MY TIME AT BMOD,
A HEALTH & PHARMA AD AGENCY.

My time at bMod was pure gold. I gained valuable agency experience alongside some remarkable folks. I had the opportunity to refine into reality many of the tricks I learned at Miralupa - like creating animated SVG backgrounds for custom gamified apps used in tradeshows, websites, and various digital projects. I cherished the diverse range of work, from print to web, motion, and video, for a wide array of health and pharma clients. bMod truly nurtured my curiosity in ways they might not even realize. At the time this site went live, you can still view their website housing the scroll animation I created using both after effects (Bodymovin plugin) and Webflow.:
